Prelaunch FAQ

A clear look at the automatic gear-changing concept and Avenue Shifters' plan to launch on Kickstarter.

What is Avenue Shifters?

A predictive automatic-shifting product line from Avenue Cruisers Co. A small servo module mounts at your rear derailleur, reads your cadence and wheel speed, and drops you into the right gear before you stop — so you always pull away easy. It never shifts while you're stationary. Six systems cover acoustic bikes, e-bikes, recumbents, and trikes.

What does “automatic gear changing” mean?

The system watches your pedaling cadence, wheel speed, and motion, and decides when to shift for you. When it sees you braking toward a stop, it downshifts while the chain is still moving — because a derailleur can't shift standing still. No display, no menus, no app: just ride.

Is the system available now, and are the details final?

Not yet. Avenue Shifters launches on Kickstarter — coming in November. The mechanism is designed and bench-verified, and bench testing is in progress. Design work started in September 2026 — we're showing the work as it happens, including what's not done yet.

Does Avenue Shifters plan to launch on Kickstarter?

Yes — the campaign is coming in November. Join the prelaunch waitlist on any model page and we'll notify you when it goes live.

Are Kickstarter pricing and final specifications available?

Yes — every model page lists both the Kickstarter backer all-in price and the planned store price, and spec-sheet PDFs are free to download. Servo $999.95 / $1,099.95 · Servo-E $1,649.95 / $1,849.95 · Servo-E XL $2,549.95 / $2,849.95 · Servo-R $1,189.95 / $1,329.95 · Servo-ER $1,829.95 / $2,029.95 · Servo-ER XL $2,729.95 / $2,949.95 (backer / store).

Which bikes does it fit?

The Servo fits standard cable-actuated rear derailleurs — our test mule is a 1992 Trek Multitrack 720 with a 7-speed cassette. After the campaign, a survey asks for your bike's make, model, and derailleur type, and we confirm fit before shipping. If it doesn't fit, switch tiers or get a full refund. Internal-gear hubs and electronic drivetrains (Di2, eTap) are not compatible.

How can I follow updates?
